Conformal Quaternionic Contact Curvature and the Local Sphere Theorem
Abstract. A curvature-type tensor invariant called quaternionic contact (qc) conformal curvature is defined on a qc manifolds in terms of the curvature and torsion of the Biquard connection. The discovered tensor is similar to the Weyl conformal curvature in Riemannian geometry and to the Chern-Moser invariant in CR geometry. It is shown that a qc manifold is locally qc conformal to the standar...
متن کاملInterpreting Sphere Images Using the Double-Contact Theorem
An occluding contour of a sphere is projected to a conic in the perspective image, and such a conic is called a sphere image. Recently, it has been discovered that each sphere image is tangent to the image of the absolute conic at two double-contact image points. The double-contact theorem describes the properties of three conics which all have double contact with another conic. This theorem pr...
متن کاملSphere Bundles with 1/4-pinched Fiberwise Metrics
We prove that all smooth sphere bundles that admit fiberwise 1/4-pinched metrics are induced bundles of vector bundles, so their structure groups reduce from DIFF(Sn) to O(n + 1). This result implies the existence of many smooth Sn-bundles over Sk that do not support strictly 1/4-pinched positively curved Riemannian metrics on their fibers.
متن کاملA Radius Sphere Theorem
The purpose of this paper is to present an optimal sphere theorem for metric spaces analogous to the celebrated Rauch-Berger-Klingenberg Sphere Theorem and the Diameter Sphere Theorem in riemannian geometry. There has lately been considerable interest in studying spaces which are more singular than riemannian manifolds. A natural reason for doing this is because Gromov-Hausdorff limits of riema...
متن کاملContact graphs of unit sphere packings revisited
The contact graph of an arbitrary finite packing of unit balls in Euclidean 3-space is the (simple) graph whose vertices correspond to the packing elements and whose two vertices are connected by an edge if the corresponding two packing elements touch each other. One of the most basic questions on contact graphs is to find the maximum number of edges that a contact graph of a packing of n unit ...
